CETRAC - Flying

CETRAC is a Real Time critical Ethernet interconnection open technology that improves connectivity, safety, performance and TCO in any critical environment.

What is Cetrac ?

The expert of critical embedded processing. Silkan is a high-tech company with a unique expertise in critical data processing architectures.

Based on its advanced knowledge and experience, Silkan has developed CETRAC, a secure gateway for time-critical and life-critical applications, compatible with any networking protocol and architecture.

CETRAC has been used in aeronautical validation test benches for years and is currently preparing its first flight on an aircraft, CETRAC being at the core of the networking architecture.

Modular IP Switch and IP End-System

According to customer specifications and after identification of the number of ports (8 ports switch, 16 ports switch, 24 ports switch,…), then protocols (Ethernet, ARINC667 Part 7, IEEE 1588, ….) that each port must be compliant with the construction (i.e assembly) of the desired custom switch can start. Shorter TTM cannot be reach.
Note that the granularity is available at port level and each port can be compliant with several protocols, this is a clear advantage in term of integration.
The protocol selection is then performed during configuration phase. SILKAN is performing the assembly of Sub-Modules taken from the CETRAC Library, the following standards are supported:

  • IEEE802.3
  • ARINC664 Part 7
  • IEEE1588
  • MIL-STD-1553
  • ARINC825-CAN
  • Custom or Standard Cyber Secure Algorithm can be added.

The Multi-protocol capability can be applied at different level: Either the same port can mix several protocols (ex: IEEE1588 and AFDX) or decided to apply one unique but different protocol according to the port number. ex: Port 1 to 8 are ARINC664 P7 compliant only and port 9 to 16 are Ethernet only and port 17 to 24 are MIL-STD-1553 protocol compliant.
The maximum speed is 10Gbps per port and SILKAN is providing the capability to perform ARINC664 Part 7 communication at up to 1Gbps. The CETRAC Modular IP switch is developed and assembled according to the DO-254 Standard.

An example of a flying cetrac

An airworthy system : Building an End-system IP or a Switch IP with the CETRAC Modular Technology is easy and safe as it consists in the selection and the assembly of already existing and mature Sub-Modules taken from the CETRAC Library.

The redundancy capability is part of SILKAN Modular IP End-System, it is based on (At least) two Ethernet/AFDX ports and a dedicated module connected to the Embedded CPU, this CPU or DSP can be located Inside or Outside the FPGA.

The same level of flexibility is available to Customer End-System. According to the End-system equipment type (Sensor, Computer, …) a set of additional features can be added and implemented in hardware to be compliant with the DO-254 standard. Ethernet communication can be performed at up to 10Gbps per port and ARINC664 Part 7 communication at up to 1Gbps.

The CETRAC Modular IP End-system is developed and assembled according to the DO-254 Standard. With the CETRAC technology, it is perfectly possible to provide a 24 ports AFDX/Ethernet switch. A demonstrator with ARINC600 form factor is showcase.

In case your network needs some additional and custom protection, it is possible to cumulate the native cyber ready feature and increase the level of security by encrypting Ethernet frames. The CETRAC core technology is pure hardware embedded into a single FPGA, it allows our customer to add into the same FPGA any type of cyber algorithms from standard ones to custom ones.
